Thank you just doesn't seem to be enough;not even close. Because of your help and big hearts, the shelter animals of Bergen County Animal Shelter, located in Teterboro, are living much fuller lives. The vet techs and volunteers were like giddy, little kids set free in a candy store! They were amazed when my husband and I arrived with 2 cartloads full of items. Every item, from the pens to the blankets and beds were desperately needed. I'm truly amazed and grateful for all of your donations and am pleasantly surprised by the amount of items that we received.

Check out our website...

Please join us in celebrating Halloween! type='text'>Summer is coming...

Summer is on it's way here and we want to make sure everyone is prepared. Here are a couple of tips to help you and your beloved furry friends stay cool, safe and enjoy the warmer months.

*Stay hydrated. This is key. Make sure to not only keep yourself hydrated but your pup as well. If you're planning a hiking trip, make sure to bring plenty of water for everyone. There are numerous pet friendly water bottles on the market so you and your dog can enjoy yourselves without the worry or hassle of dehydration.

*Check all fences and gates. Landscapers have great intentions but often leave gates or fences open. Make sure to double check all gates before letting your animals into the yard.

* Tick season. Take it from me~ticks will try to hitch a ride with your furry friends. Make sure, after EVERY walk, to check your dog for ticks. It's easy to remove a tick the sooner they latch on, which makes life easier for you and your pup. Ticks can be removed with tweezers and bravery. If you've found a stubborn tick that cannot be removed by a mere mortal, make an appointment with your vet as soon as possible.

Most of all, enjoy the summer months with your pets. Summer is a great time for fun outdoor activities that can't always be done in the winter months.

Chihuahuas looking for a safe, loving environment.

Attached are photos of 2 long haired Chihuahua ’s named Foxie and Cuervo. Here is some brief info on them -- "Foxie" is the female, she's the fawn colored one, she is not fixed... and "Cuervo" is the male, he is mostly white with black and brown patches, he is nuetered. They are 4 years old and are "papered" long haired chihuahua's. They are pretty good dogs, loving, ok with other pets and are very affectionate and happy to be held and petted. Their training is pretty basic… I'd say they are a bit confused from lack of consisticy, because of val's work and school schedule changes...they were trained to use a wee wee pad at first, than they were trained to go outside, which they did, but now they have to go on wee wee pads again alot of the time because of the work/school schedule changes again.....honestly, the dogs are very loving and affectionate and I'm sure with the proper owner/home, someone who is home and has the time to get them into some REGULAR ROUTINE they'ld probably thrive and be very happy. Now they crave attention and consistency.

Something to watch out for.

Here's a link to an interesting article my client informed me of.....
He was born in June 2007 and weighs around 23 lbs. He is up-to-date on his shots and is not neutered.

Sammy has recently lost his owner/mother. He is in need of a very patient and loving family. Sammy is smart and quick to learn. He has a lot of energy, and is almost always looking to play. He wants to be the center of attention and affection!
Sammy is mostly house trained if taken outside on a regular basis, he does mark in the house and needs to be retrained. The ideal situation would be with someone who is home or available much of the day. He would benefit greatly from obedience training classes.

Please email us @ Americanpetsittingservices.com if you're interested in giving Sammy a loving home. I was weaving my way through the streets of Fort Lee, and if anyone knows Fort Lee, it can be a very unforgiving city. As I zipped through the one way streets, I noticed the car in front of me swerve to the other side of the road and then move on. I was curious, but cautious at the same time. To my surprise, appeared a very beautiful, very frightful Golden Retriever. Well, me being the animal lover that I am, (friends call me a tree hugger) I threw the car into park and approached the pooch. I was weary, as was this Golden beauty, but figured, hey, there are plenty of hospitals in the surrounding area! The dog cowered as I approached, squatted on the nearest lawn and relieved herself. Apparently, she was more frightened than I. I offered my hand for a good sniffing and then gave the animal the once-over. She was collarless, clean and her nails were perfectly trimmed. With all of these clues I figured the lass must belong to an unsuspecting neighbor. I retreated to the car to dig for a refreshment for the thirsty girl. She seemed happy to have a friend in this unbearable heat we've been experiencing. She slopped up the water in a very cute, very messy manner and then relished in some back scratching and head petting.

It was time to find this sweet girl her rightful owner. I decided to start with the one place the pup had cowered and retreated to. With a quick ring of the doorbell, I was greeted by a not-so-trusting, peering eye. With a smile and a pointing finger, I tried to coax the man out of his home to claim his "prize." To my very happy surprise, he claimed the adorable Golden as his own. I warned him about the dangers of a collarless dog roaming the streets of a very busy, very congested city. He shook his head in approval and we both moved on.

The trials and tribulations of a pet sitter and company

I've witnessed many strange events on my daily dog walks over the years. Here's one of the strange occurrences I'd like to share with you:

While walking one of my favorite dogs to visit, a cockapoo named Bailey, we came across a little Yorkie cowering in a neighboring front yard. Upon approach, I noticed that the little guy didn't have a collar and he seemed to be somewhat scruffy. Bailey was over the moon about this discovery and tried to get a closer look. Our new, little friend didn't know what to make of our nosy encounter, so he just backed away and kept his distance. I was at a loss at this moment in time, not knowing what to do with our new found situation. Bailey had gotten a good look by this point and was ready to move on and continue our walk. I rang the doorbell several times and checked the yard for a fence. Unfortunately, no one answered and there was no fenced in yard. Regrettably, with no cellphone at the time, I had no choice but to leave the poor pup by his lonesome.

When Bailey and I returned to her house, I made sure to include our little adventure in my clients daily notebook. Thankfully, my client, the town savior, found little "Max" in the same area I had seen him, several hours later. She scooped him up and rushed him to the town veterinarian. Worried, but willing to take him in at the same time, my client contacted the local police station and waited patiently for word on this sweet, little pup.

This story does have a happy ending, I swear! My client contacted the vet in the morning and was pleased to hear that the police/ vet's office had gotten a hold of Max's parents and order was restored to the little town of Fair Lawn. If is wasn't for people like my client, a lot of scared pups would be roaming the streets alone and hungry. This story shows that there still are good people left in this world!
